Bihar Approves 760 New Prosecutor Posts

Bihar government notification of 760 new prosecutors in Bihar

The Bihar government has added 760 new prosecutors in Bihar to reduce the backlog of pending cases. This brings the total number of public prosecutors in the state to 2,200.

The Home Department issued a notification confirming the new appointments. The government plans to clear more than 1.8 million pending cases across courts in Bihar. The Supreme Court has ordered that every court must have a dedicated prosecutor. The new BNSS law will also help speed up trials.

Bihar currently has 1,195 judicial magistrate courts and 675 sessions courts. The prosecution unit has been reorganized for better efficiency. The District Prosecution Officer will now be called the Chief Prosecutor. Sub-Divisional and Additional Public Prosecutors will serve as Additional Chief Prosecutors. Assistant Prosecutors and Prosecution Officers will report to them.

Out of the 760 new posts, 12 go to the state-level Prosecution Directorate. District units will receive 190 posts. Courts will get 424 posts, including 70 Assistant Prosecutors and 354 Prosecution Officers. For the first time, senior prosecutors will serve in the Home Department, Police Headquarters, Vigilance, ATS, BPSC, EOU, Prisons, and other key departments. This will improve monitoring and speed up case resolution.
