A Bihar court has delivered a major verdict in a decades-old case. MP-MLA Court Judge Sanjay Kumar in Begusarai sentenced former MP Suraj Bhan Singh to one year in prison, while BJP leader Ram Lakhan Singh received four years. Ram Lakhan Singh’s aide, Virendra Ishwar, was also sentenced to four years.
The case dates back to October 1992, when police raided a wax factory in Begusarai. The factory, linked to Ram Lakhan Singh, was allegedly used to hide weapons. During the raid, the accused opened fire on police. Ram Lakhan Singh and Virendra Ishwar were arrested at the spot, while Suraj Bhan Singh escaped.
After 33 years, the Bihar court sentences former MP Suraj Bhan Singh under Section 353 IPC. He was granted bail due to the short sentence. Ram Lakhan Singh and Virendra Ishwar face charges under Section 307 and Arms Act, leading to longer jail terms.
Despite his criminal past, Suraj Bhan Singh went on to become an MP from Ballia in 2004 on an LJP ticket. His political mentor, Ram Lakhan Singh, contested several elections but never won.
