Bihar Elections 2025: Nitish Kumar’s Backward Caste Alliance Still Holds Strong

Nitish Kumar’s Backward

In the Bihar Vidhan Sabha Elections 2025, caste continues to shape the political landscape. Yet, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stands apart with a loyal coalition built over two decades. Once known only as a Kurmi leader, Nitish has united several backward and extremely backward communities around his governance style.

Kurmis form less than 3% of Bihar’s population, but Nitish’s reach goes far beyond them. His development record—roads, electricity, and safety—still wins the trust of EBCs and Dalits across districts like Jamui and Katihar. Many voters see him as a leader who delivered, not just as a caste representative.

Even as NDA faces internal challenges, such as rebel candidates like Sudarshan Kumar running independently, Nitish’s personal credibility remains intact. Leaders like Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi support the NDA alliance, strengthening its caste balance

Nitish’s welfare measures, including 20% reservation for Most Backward Castes in local bodies and a ₹10 lakh entrepreneurship scheme, continue to pay dividends. Despite minor discontent among sections like the Kahars, voters largely remain loyal to him. For many, Nitish Kumar symbolizes development and dignity—qualities that keep his backward caste coalition strong in 2025.
