Bihar witnessed record-breaking voter participation in the first phase of the 2025 Assembly elections. Over 64 percent of voters cast their ballots across 121 constituencies. Samastipur and Muzaffarpur led with more than 70 percent turnout, while Patna recorded the lowest at 58.4 percent.
This marks an 8.5 percent increase from the 2020 elections, the highest turnout since 1951. Muzaffarpur alone saw a 10.7 percent rise compared to the previous election. The strong turnout reflects the growing political engagement of Bihar’s citizens.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of large-scale “vote theft.” He claimed that BJP workers who voted in other states were also voting in Bihar. Calling it a “murder of democracy,” he criticized the Election Commission and named three officials—Gyanesh Kumar, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, and Vivek Joshi—as responsible.
Gandhi alleged that millions of names were removed from voter lists and voters were blocked at polling stations. He warned that any government formed through “vote theft” would fail to serve the youth and the public.
