Bihar Empowered Standing Committee Elections: Nomination, Voting and Results on Same Day

Bihar Empowered Standing Committee Elections voting process in municipal bodies

The Bihar Empowered Standing Committee Elections will soon take place in urban local bodies across the state. The government has decided that nominations, voting, and counting will all happen on the same day to make the process faster and more transparent.

The Bihar Empowered Standing Committee Elections will be held in 264 urban local bodies, including 19 municipal corporations. The elections are likely to take place between April 15 and April 20. Ward councillors will vote to elect members of the empowered standing committee.

District Magistrates will supervise the election process in their respective districts. Councillors will cast their votes through secret ballots in separate ballot boxes for each position. After voting ends, officials will open the boxes in front of councillors and start counting immediately.

The state government introduced this system after amending municipal laws. Earlier, mayors or chairpersons selected the committee members, which often led to allegations of favoritism. Now councillors will choose members through majority voting.

Authorities will also record the entire election process on video. Newly elected committee members will take the oath soon after the results are declared.
