Union Cabinet Approves ₹4,447 Crore Highway Project in Bihar

Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi approves ₹4,447 crore four-lane greenfield highway project in Bihar’s Buxar–Bhagalpur corridor

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given Bihar highway project approval for a major greenfield road initiative. The four-lane Buxar–Bhagalpur High-Speed Corridor will significantly improve connectivity and regional development.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the 84-kilometer stretch will cost ₹4,447 crore. This approval marks one of the biggest infrastructure decisions in recent months and is expected to strengthen trade and logistics in Bihar.

The project will connect Bhagalpur to key regional towns including Mokama, Barahiya, Lakhisarai, Jamalpur, and Munger. By enhancing transport efficiency, the corridor will reduce travel time and boost economic activity across the state.

With Bihar assembly elections approaching, the Bihar highway project approval has also sparked political debate. Analysts believe the move combines development priorities with a strategy to appeal to voters by focusing on infrastructure growth.
