Bihar Kidnapping Industry: Ex-DGP Gupteshwar Pandey Makes Shocking Claim

Bihar kidnapping industry claim by former DGP Gupteshwar Pandey

Former Bihar Director General of Police Gupteshwar Pandey has stirred controversy with his statement about the Bihar kidnapping industry. He claimed that the Bihar kidnapping industry began years ago after an IPS officer allegedly suggested the idea to dacoits operating in the state.

Pandey said the incident happened when the officer served as Superintendent of Police in Bettiah in West Champaran district. At that time, several dacoit gangs were active in the region. Police struggled to control frequent robberies and violent crimes.

According to Pandey, the officer allegedly advised criminals to kidnap wealthy people instead of carrying out robberies. The criminals could demand ransom and later release the victims. Pandey said such crimes would create less pressure on police compared to large-scale dacoities.

The former DGP also said kidnapping cases were once common in Bihar. However, strict law enforcement and government action over the years helped reduce such crimes in the state.
