Bihar policemen robbed a young man on a public road in Patna, once again raising serious questions about police conduct in the state. The incident badly damaged the image of the uniform and shocked local residents.
The crime took place in Patna when Bihar policemen robbed a young man who was travelling towards Patna Junction. The victim, Sudhir Kumar, was stopped during a routine patrol. He was abused, beaten, and ₹2,300 was snatched from him.
On Tuesday, a special monitoring court of the Patna Civil Court delivered its verdict. A Jamadar and three policemen were sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment. Each of the four convicts was also fined ₹10,000.
The convicted officers were then-Assistant Sub-Inspector Vidyanand Yadav, constables Naushad and Moti Ram, and driver Virendra Kumar. The incident occurred in September 2017 during a night patrol.
After the attack, the victim filed a complaint at Gandhi Maidan police station. An investigation was conducted, and strong evidence was presented before the court.
The judgment sends a clear message that misuse of power will not be tolerated.
