The issue of Bihar school tablets unused has raised concerns in the state’s education system. The education department distributed more than 1.61 lakh tablets to around 74,000 government schools to record students’ attendance through face-recognition technology. However, many schools have still not started using them properly, and the problem of Bihar school tablets unused continues to grow.
Officials reported that only around 10,000 students’ attendance has been recorded through the tablet-based system so far. Many schools have not even completed registration of their tablets despite clear instructions from the department.
The government introduced the system to improve transparency and stop fake attendance records in schools. The tablets allow teachers to mark student attendance digitally using facial recognition technology.
A recent review showed that in several districts only 2–3% of students’ attendance is recorded using the tablets. Many schools are still keeping the devices unused.
Education department officials have now warned schools to activate the tablets quickly. Authorities may take action against institutions that continue to ignore the orders.
