The Bihar Waste Management Rules 2026 have come into effect from April 1 to improve garbage management in urban local bodies across the state. The new system applies to homes, government offices, shops, and commercial establishments in all municipal areas. Authorities aim to make cities cleaner and more environmentally friendly. Under the Bihar Waste Management Rules 2026, residents must separate waste before handing it over to sanitation workers.
Residents must now keep garbage in four separate categories such as wet, dry, sanitary, and special waste. Sanitation workers will not collect mixed waste from households or businesses. Street vendors must also keep separate bins for wet and dry waste at their stalls.
Large waste generators such as hotels, malls, hospitals, and big apartments must register on the municipal portal. Any establishment producing more than 100 kg of waste daily must manage or process the waste at its own premises.
Officials say the new rules will strengthen scientific waste disposal and reduce pollution in cities.
