A Mohali court has extended Bikram Singh Majithia judicial custody by 14 days in a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Majithia, a senior leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), appeared in court through videoconferencing from New Nabha jail.
The court set the next hearing for October 4. Majithia was first arrested from his Amritsar residence on June 25. He spent 11 days in police custody before being moved to judicial custody.
During the hearing, the prosecution presented updates on the ongoing investigation. The extension ensures that authorities have sufficient time to complete legal procedures and gather evidence.
SAD leaders have voiced concerns over the prolonged custody, emphasizing the need for a fair and speedy trial. Meanwhile, supporters of Majithia continue to follow the case developments closely.
The extension highlights the court’s role in maintaining procedural fairness while handling high-profile corruption cases. Majithia’s legal team plans to review the next steps before the upcoming hearing.
This development adds to the ongoing political and legal discussions surrounding prominent leaders and anti-corruption measures in Punjab.
