BJP Alleges Bengal Government Creating ‘Fake Citizens’ Ahead of Voter Roll Revision
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the West Bengal government of issuing fake citizenship certificates in border districts to manipulate voter lists ahead of the upcoming Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. BJP leaders claimed that these alleged “fake citizens” are being added as voters to influence future elections, particularly in sensitive border areas. The party has demanded an immediate inquiry by the Election Commission of India and urged central agencies to verify documents issued in these regions. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, accusing the BJP of attempting to discredit the state administration before polls. Political observers note that the issue reflects growing tensions between the two parties over voter registration and migration-related concerns in border districts such as North 24 Parganas, Nadia, and Murshidabad. The Election Commission has not yet issued an official response.
