The Punjab BJP staged dharnas at 361 locations across the state, accusing the Bhagwant Mann government of misusing Rs 12,000 crore released by the Centre under the disaster relief fund. Leaders alleged that money meant for flood victims was siphoned off, leaving citizens without proper assistance.
Protesters raised slogans such as “Where did Rs 12,000 crore go?” and “Bhagwant government has eaten up Rs 12,000 crore!”. The agitation reflected growing anger against the ruling AAP for failing to provide sufficient aid despite massive central support.
Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar said that while the Centre sanctioned substantial relief, the Mann government failed to deliver it transparently. He warned that if flood victims continued to suffer without fair compensation, the BJP would intensify its agitation.
Party’s state working president and Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma accused the AAP government of presenting manipulated figures to mislead the public. He demanded accountability for the funds and clarity on their actual utilization.
The BJP said the issue is not only about corruption but also about justice for affected families. With thousands still awaiting aid, the controversy over relief funds has become a key flashpoint in Punjab’s politics.
