BKU Ekta Sidhupur Crisis came to the forefront on Monday after Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta–Sidhupur) removed Jagjit Singh Dallewal from his post and appointed Dalvir Singh Sidhupur as the new convener. The decision followed sharp internal differences within the farmers’ organisation.
The BKU Ekta Sidhupur Crisis unfolded during an important meeting held on January 6, 2026, under the leadership of press secretary Mehar Singh Theri. Leaders unanimously backed Dalvir Singh Sidhupur, son of the organisation’s founder late Pishora Singh Sidhupur, to restore unity and direction.
Senior members accused Dallewal of weakening the organisation by removing experienced office-bearers and failing to keep the union united. Leaders also claimed that after the Delhi farmers’ protest, the union had decided to break ties with the Samyukt Kisan Morcha. They alleged that Dallewal ignored this decision and rejoined SKM without consent.
Members further blamed him for launching the Shambhu and Khanauri protests, which they said did not achieve expected results. Leaders also highlighted the absence of internal elections for six years.
To address these concerns, the union formed a five-member committee to conduct transparent elections. District presidents and block leaders from several Punjab districts attended the meeting.
