The brown sugar and heroin trade in Sasaram–Dehri is reportedly increasing and turning the area into a safe zone for drug buyers and sellers. People from nearby states, including Jharkhand, are also coming here to purchase illegal drugs. Local police have received information about the growing network but have not yet arrested any major kingpin.
Authorities say the brown sugar and heroin trade in Sasaram–Dehri expanded after alcohol prohibition in Bihar. Earlier, substances like cannabis were more common. Now, stronger drugs such as heroin and brown sugar are circulating in several urban areas.
Drug smugglers often use trains and buses to transport the substances. They believe it is easier to hide drugs in public transport than in private vehicles. Buyers from Ranchi and other places reportedly meet sellers in hotel rooms near Dehri railway station to complete deals.
Police continue operations against the network, but investigators say stronger action is needed to break the organized drug chain.
