The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) announced on Monday that it will abstain from the upcoming Vice-Presidential election. Party Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) said the decision was taken since there is no option for NOTA in the election.

KTR explained that the BRS had offered support to any alliance that could ensure the supply of 2 lakh tonnes of urea to Telangana farmers. However, neither the NDA nor the INDIA bloc assured this, forcing the BRS to step aside. “We are an independent party. We have no bosses in Delhi. The people of Telangana are our only bosses,” he said.

He also clarified that no alliance approached the BRS for support. The final decision came after discussions with MPs, MLAs, MLCs, and senior party leaders. The BRS currently holds four Rajya Sabha seats but has no Lok Sabha representation.

Meanwhile, KTR declined to comment on the resignation of his sister K. Kavitha, who was suspended for anti-party activities last week. Kavitha had alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project and targeted senior BRS leaders, which led to her suspension.
