The BSP faces threat of losing its lone MLA in Bihar, and the party is raising serious concerns. The BSP faces threat of losing its lone MLA in Bihar once again, just as it did in the previous Assembly term. The party won only one seat in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections — the Ramgarh seat in Kaimur district, where Satish Kumar Singh Yadav won by a small margin of 30 votes.
Party leaders now claim that several attempts are being made to lure their MLA. They say these efforts aim to weaken the BSP before the next elections. During a state-level meeting in Patna, BSP Bihar in-charge Anil Kumar stated that their MLA will stay with the party despite these pressures.
This situation reminds the BSP of what happened last time. In 2020, the BSP’s only MLA, Mohammad Jama Khan, joined the JDU. Soon after switching, he became a minister in the Nitish Kumar cabinet. Later, the JDU again nominated him, and he returned to the Assembly as a minister. He is now the only Muslim minister in the NDA government.
The BSP hopes to avoid a repeat of that episode and retain its lone MLA this time.
