Bypoll Results Today: Counting Begins Across Eight Key Assembly Seats in India

Counting begins for bypoll results across eight Assembly seats in India.

The bypoll results for eight crucial Assembly constituencies across India will be declared today, with counting beginning early in the morning. The elections, held earlier this month, covered two seats in Jammu & Kashmir and one seat each in Punjab, Telangana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan and Mizoram. Political stakes remain high as several contests feature heavyweight candidates and sensitive regional dynamics.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the Budgam seat drew attention after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah retained Ganderbal, vacating Budgam. The fight here is primarily between National Conference candidate Aga Syed Mehmood and PDP’s Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi. In Nagrota, the seat fell vacant following the death of BJP MLA Devender Singh Rana, with the contest now involving BJP’s Devyani Rana, NC’s Shamim Begum and J&K National Panthers Party’s Harsh Dev Singh.

Punjab’s Tarn Taran witnessed a three-way clash involving AAP, Congress and SAD. AAP fielded senior leader Harmeet Singh Sandhu, while Congress nominated Karanbir Singh Burj. The SAD placed its hopes on Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa.

In Rajasthan’s Anta constituency, the bypoll was necessitated due to the disqualification of BJP MLA Kanwar Lal Meena. The key battle is between Congress candidate Pramod Jai Bhaya and BJP’s Morpal Suman.

Jharkhand’s Ghatshila saw a high-profile contest between Babulal Soren of the BJP and Mahagathbandhan’s Somesh Chandra Soren. In Odisha’s Nuapada, the BJP’s Jay Dholakia, son of the late MLA Rajendra Dholakia, faced BJD’s Snehangini Chhuria and Congress veteran Ghasiram Majhi.

In Telangana, Jubilee Hills turned into an intense battleground between Congress’s BC leader Naveen Yadav, BRS candidate Sunitha, and BJP’s Deepak Reddy.

Mizoram’s Dampa constituency witnessed a four-cornered contest following the death of MNF MLA Lalrintluanga Sailo, with candidates from BJP, Congress, MNF and ZPM in the fray.
