Canada Lives Because US became the central message of Donald Trump’s Davos speech on Wednesday. He criticised Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for showing “no gratitude” toward Washington. Trump said Canada benefits from American protection and economic support. He claimed the country survives due to U.S. power.
Trump reacted to Carney’s address a day earlier. Carney warned that the U.S.-led global system faces a serious rupture. He urged middle powers to work together. He said nations without influence risk losing control over their futures.
Carney also opposed U.S. tariffs tied to Greenland. He expressed support for Greenland and Denmark. He stressed their right to decide their political future.
Trump spoke about his proposed “Golden Dome” missile defence system. He said the shield would protect the United States and Canada. He repeated earlier remarks about making Canada the 51st U.S. state. He previously mocked former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as “Governor of Canada.”
Tensions between the two neighbours continue to rise. Canadian media recently reported military planning for extreme conflict scenarios. Ottawa still seeks cooperation. Washington continues to press its strategic demands.
