Cancer cases rising in Telangana; doctors stress early detection
Telangana is seeing a steady increase in cancer cases, with numbers rising from 40,177 in 2015 to 52,334 in 2024, according to data shared in Parliament. Doctors are urging people to focus on early detection and regular check-ups, especially ahead of World Cancer Day.
Health experts said head and neck cancers, often linked to tobacco chewing, are highly common in the State. They stressed that lifestyle changes, quitting tobacco, and routine screening can help detect cancer early and improve treatment outcomes.
Authorities are also encouraging people to be aware of the warning signs of cancer, such as unusual lumps, persistent sores, or changes in weight and appetite. Early diagnosis allows doctors to provide timely treatment and increases the chances of recovery.
Telangana’s health department plans to strengthen awareness campaigns and screening programs to reduce the burden of cancer and save more lives in the region.
