Carney Warns US-Led Order as Canada’s prime minister delivered a sharp message at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos. Mark Carney said the global system built under U.S. leadership is breaking apart. He described the shift as a rupture driven by growing rivalry between major powers.
Carney said the old system brought stability through open trade routes and shared security. He added that this era is ending. He warned countries not to rely on obedience to powerful states for protection. He said compliance no longer guarantees safety.
The Canadian leader urged middle powers to work together. He said nations like Canada lack the leverage to act alone. He warned that countries without influence risk losing their place at the negotiating table.
Carney also voiced strong support for Greenland and Denmark. He rejected U.S. claims over the autonomous territory. He said Greenland’s people must decide their own future.
His speech received a standing ovation from delegates. He also referred to global concern over Washington’s role in weakening international cooperation.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump again fuelled controversy. He posted a map showing Canada under the U.S. flag. The move revived fears about earlier annexation remarks.
