CEC Hopeful Telangana Will Set National Benchmark in SIR
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has expressed confidence that Telangana will emerge as a benchmark state for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the future. Speaking in Hyderabad, he said the Election Commission is closely monitoring the implementation of SIR across States to ensure accuracy and transparency in voter lists.
Mr. Kumar praised the recently completed SIR exercise in Bihar, describing it as “flawless” and noting that it recorded zero complaints. He said Bihar’s experience demonstrated that with proper planning, coordination, and use of technology, the revision process can be carried out smoothly and efficiently.
The CEC said Telangana has strong administrative capacity and technical infrastructure, which would help it achieve high standards in future SIR exercises. He emphasised that accurate electoral rolls are essential for free and fair elections and for strengthening democracy.
Mr. Kumar also urged officials to remain vigilant, involve political parties, and address public concerns promptly during the revision process. According to him, setting high standards in SIR would enhance voter confidence and electoral integrity across the country.
