In a major outcome of the Centre’s month-long Swachhta Campaign 5.0, the government generated over ₹800 crore by selling scrap from various ministries and departments. Conducted between October 2 and 31, the drive also freed up 232 lakh square feet of office space and cleared 29 lakh physical files, officials confirmed.
The campaign, coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), covered 11.58 lakh office sites across India. Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya, K. Ram Mohan Naidu, and Dr. Jitendra Singh led the initiative involving 84 ministries, including India’s foreign missions. The campaign, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Swachhata and good governance, continues to drive administrative efficiency.
Since 2021, the government has earned ₹4,100 crore through scrap disposal across five editions of the campaign. Collectively, it has covered 23.62 lakh offices, cleared 166.95 lakh files, and freed 928.84 lakh sq. ft. of office space nationwide.
This year, efforts also focused on reducing pendency in government work. Dr. Jitendra Singh said the campaign has visibly improved governance, public service delivery, and workplace efficiency while promoting environmental sustainability and cleanliness across departments.
