Centre to Promote Indigenous Social Media After PM Modi’s Key Meeting

Following a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 6 in Delhi, top government secretaries have been directed to actively promote and adopt Indian social media platforms. Sources revealed that this directive was part of a broader 28-point agenda discussed during the interaction between the Prime Minister and senior bureaucrats heading various ministries and departments.
The push comes amid ongoing concerns over data privacy, digital sovereignty, and the dominance of foreign tech platforms in India’s digital space. The Centre aims to encourage innovation and reduce dependency on international tech giants by supporting indigenous alternatives such as Koo, Sandes, and others.
Officials have been asked to lead by example by using and endorsing these platforms in official communication. The move aligns with the government’s larger vision of “Digital India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” promoting technological self-reliance and national digital infrastructure.
