The Chandigarh Crime Branch team that arrested two spies linked to cross-border smuggling will receive national recognition. The Narcotics Control Bureau will honour six Chandigarh Police officials with the NCB DG Disc. The award follows a successful joint operation with the NCB.
During the operation, the team seized 468 grams of heroin and two Glock pistols. The recovery took place near the Pakistan border. Officials confirmed that the accused used drones to smuggle drugs and weapons into India.
The honoured officers include Crime Branch SP Jasbir Singh, DSP Dheeraj Kumar, Inspector Satvinder Duhan, ASI Rampal, Senior Constable Sandeep, and Constable Ravinder Bura. The NCB Deputy Director released a list of 68 officers from across India. Six names belong to Chandigarh Police. This marks the first time Chandigarh Police personnel will receive the NCB DG Disc.
In May, the Crime Branch and NCB busted a major smuggling and espionage network. Police arrested Bharoop Singh and Gurkeerat Singh from Amritsar district. Investigators found evidence linking them to spying activities. They allegedly sent photographs of army movements and camps to Pakistan.
Sources said Inspector Satvinder Duhan received the initial intelligence tip. The team acted swiftly and stopped a long-running drone-based supply network. Authorities continue probing wider links.
