Children’s Sangam Urges Better Infrastructure in Tamil Nadu Schools

The Children’s Sangam, a student-led advocacy group in Tamil Nadu, has demanded significant improvements in the infrastructure of government schools across the State. During a recent meeting with education authorities in Chennai, members highlighted issues such as inadequate classrooms, poorly maintained toilets, lack of safe drinking water, insufficient seating, and damaged or missing furniture. The group emphasised that such conditions adversely affect learning outcomes and the overall well-being of students. Children also called for the provision of functional playgrounds, libraries, and science laboratories to ensure a holistic educational experience. The Sangam urged the authorities to prioritise maintenance and repair work, as well as allocate sufficient funds for infrastructure development. Education officials reportedly acknowledged the concerns and assured that proposals for upgrading facilities would be reviewed. Advocates say that addressing these basic infrastructural gaps is essential for promoting quality education and creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for all students.
