A Chilika Lake migratory birds spectacle has transformed Asia’s largest brackish water lagoon into a vibrant winter paradise. The Chilika Lake migratory birds arrival began with the first winter breeze, bringing thousands of winged visitors and boosting tourism across the region.

More than 50 species and lakhs of birds have already reached Nalabana, Mangalajodi, Satapada, and other hotspots. Their presence has drawn bird watchers, wildlife enthusiasts, and visitors from across India and abroad. Tourism groups expect higher footfall this season as the wetlands burst into colour and sound.

Birds from Malaysia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Russia, France, and the Netherlands now fill the sky over Chilika. They travel thousands of kilometres seeking food and ideal winter habitats. Their arrival has increased tourist movement, with travellers enjoying boat rides, guided birding routes, and photography tours. Local boatmen, bird guides, and binocular operators have also geared up for the busy season.

Visitors describe the experience as unforgettable. Many report spotting kingfishers, ducks, and other species during short tours. Wildlife officials believe even more flocks will arrive in the coming weeks due to favourable conditions.

Chilika continues to shine as one of Asia’s most important wintering sites, offering both ecological richness and stunning travel experiences.
