Congress in BRS strongholds has delivered early surprises in the first phase of the Gram Panchayat elections. Initial trends indicate that the party has won key village seats once seen as safe BRS territory. Congress in BRS strongholds is now emerging as a major talking point in Telangana’s rural politics.
Shortly after counting began, Congress candidates moved ahead in several villages dominated by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Political analysts link this shift to local anger over governance issues and stronger grassroots mobilisation by Congress workers.
BRS leaders admitted to losses in select pockets. However, they remain hopeful of recovering ground in the coming phases. Party insiders, though, point to internal disputes and weak booth-level coordination as key reasons behind the setback.
The BJP faced disappointment as well. The party struggled even in villages falling under its Parliamentary constituencies. Observers say limited village-level presence and lack of strong local faces hurt BJP’s prospects.
Election officials reported high voter turnout and largely peaceful polling. The next phase is expected to be more competitive, with all parties reassessing their rural strategies.
