Congress MP Hooda Accuses Modi Government of Undermining Rural Employment Scheme
Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has accused the Modi-led Union government of “killing” the rural employment guarantee scheme, alleging that recent policy decisions are weakening a crucial lifeline for rural households. Speaking in Hyderabad, Hooda described the move as an “open declaration of war on rural livelihoods,” claiming it would severely impact the poor and marginalised sections dependent on the scheme for income support.
He alleged that inadequate budgetary allocations, delays in wage payments, and restrictive implementation measures have reduced the effectiveness of the programme. According to Hooda, the scheme has played a vital role in providing employment security, improving rural infrastructure, and supporting the rural economy.
The Congress leader said his party would strongly oppose the government’s approach on every available platform, from Parliament to public protests. He urged the Centre to strengthen the scheme instead of diluting it and called for timely fund release and fair wages.
Hooda also criticised the government for ignoring rising rural distress and unemployment, warning that weakening the employment scheme would worsen economic inequality and social hardship in villages across the country.
