Controversy Erupts Over Map on Muhammad Yunus’s Gift to Pakistani General
Bangladesh’s interim chief adviser, Muhammad Yunus, has caused a diplomatic stir after presenting a book titled Art of Triumph: Bangladesh’s New Dawn to Pakistan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza. The book’s cover featured a map that appeared to include India’s northeastern states within Bangladesh’s borders, sparking strong reactions in India.
Bangladeshi officials clarified that the artwork was part of a graffiti series symbolizing national unity, not a political statement or altered map. The government dismissed claims of a “Greater Bangladesh” depiction as baseless.
The controversy comes amid shifting regional dynamics and increased scrutiny of Dhaka’s ties with Islamabad and Beijing. India has yet to issue a formal response but is reportedly monitoring the situation closely as the incident fuels debate over Yunus’s foreign policy approach.
