CPI urges Andhra Pradesh government to scrap PPP policy for medical colleges

CPI demands withdrawal of PPP policy for medical colleges, stating that the move would harm public healthcare and make medical education unaffordable. CPI leaders raised the issue in Vijayawada on Sunday and urged the State government to reconsider the policy.
Party representatives said the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model would encourage commercial interests in the medical education sector. They argued that government medical colleges should remain fully under public control to ensure equal access for students from weaker sections.
The CPI leaders expressed concern that private participation could lead to higher fees and reduced reservation opportunities. They warned that such policies may push meritorious but poor students out of medical education.
The party also claimed that the PPP policy could weaken public hospitals attached to medical colleges. According to them, profit-driven management may affect the quality of patient care and training.
CPI demands withdrawal of PPP policy for medical colleges to protect the public healthcare system. The party called for increased government funding instead of private involvement. It urged the authorities to strengthen existing medical colleges and improve infrastructure without handing control to private players.
CPI leaders said they would continue to oppose the policy through protests and public campaigns if the government failed to act.
