CPI Urges AP Government to Compensate or Return Idle Land to Farmers in Eluru
The Communist Party of India (CPI) has demanded that the Andhra Pradesh government either provide compensation or return 340 acres of land acquired in 2016 for a proposed aircraft components unit in Eluru district, which remain unused. Party leaders highlighted that the delay in utilising the land has left local farming families in severe financial distress, as their primary source of livelihood has been disrupted.
CPI representatives stressed that farmers were initially assured of proper rehabilitation or alternative opportunities, but the prolonged inaction has exacerbated economic hardships. They urged the government to take immediate steps to resolve the issue, either by compensating the affected families fairly or restoring the land so they can resume cultivation.
The party also called for stricter oversight of future industrial land acquisitions to prevent similar situations and ensure that development projects do not come at the cost of farmers’ welfare and livelihoods.
