Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark closed temporarily after police spotted unauthorized drones in its airspace. The drones appeared near the airport, which also serves as a military base, around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday and stayed until just before 1 a.m. Thursday. Authorities confirmed the drones have left the area.
Police have not yet identified who was behind the incident but are exploring several theories. This is the second drone-related shutdown at a Danish airport this week. Earlier, Copenhagen Airport halted all flights for nearly four hours after multiple large drones were spotted. The prime minister called it a “serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure.”
The incidents follow a major cyberattack over the weekend that disrupted check-in and boarding systems at several busy European airports, including London’s Heathrow. Authorities are investigating whether the drone events are linked, but both cases involved unauthorized drones breaking airport security and violating airspace.
Norway also reported a drone-related closure at Oslo Airport this week. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen suggested Russia could be involved, citing similar drone activity in Poland and Romania, though the Kremlin denied any role.
