New Zealand’s star cricketer Daryl Mitchell on Wednesday dethroned India’s Rohit Sharma to become the world’s No. 1 ODI batsman in the latest ICC rankings. Rohit, who held the top position for nearly three weeks, has now slipped to second place.

Mitchell achieved this milestone on the back of a century against the West Indies in the opening match of their ODI series. This performance marked his seventh ODI century, and the consistency of the right-handed batter propelled him past Rohit to claim the top spot for the first time in his career.

Mitchell currently sits at 782 rating points, just one point ahead of Rohit. He also becomes only the second New Zealand player in history to reach No. 1 in the ODI batting rankings, after Glenn Turner, who last achieved the feat in 1979.

Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran dropped one position to third. Three Indian batters — Shubman Gill (4th), Virat Kohli (5th) and Shreyas Iyer (8th) — continue to feature in the top 10.

Pakistan players too have shown major improvement following their 3–0 ODI series win over Sri Lanka. Mohammad Rizwan climbed five spots to 22nd, while Fakhar Zaman rose to 26th. Among bowlers, Abrar Ahmed leapt 11 places to 9th and Haris Rauf climbed to 23rd, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan retaining the top spot.

In Test rankings, several players made noteworthy gains after India-South Africa and Bangladesh-Ireland matches. South Africa’s captain Temba Bavuma entered the top five for the first time after scoring an unbeaten 55 in the second innings at Kolkata. India’s skipper Shubman Gill moved up two places to 11th.

Bangladesh opener Najmul Hossain Shanto jumped four places to 34th after his century against Ireland in Sylhet.

India’s speedster Jasprit Bumrah maintained his position as the world’s No. 1 Test bowler, following a six-wicket haul at Eden Gardens. His teammates Kuldeep Yadav (career-best 13th) and Ravindra Jadeja (15th) also saw improvements. South Africa’s Marco Jansen rose to 11th, while Simon Harmer climbed a remarkable 20 positions to 24th.

Jansen also moved up to 5th place in the Test all-rounder rankings.
