Delhi’s air quality has plunged to severe and hazardous levels following Diwali celebrations. In the early hours today, the Air Quality Index (AQI) touched 979 at Chanakya Place and 940 at Naraina Village, placing the city firmly in the “danger zone.”

The toxic smog has led to breathing difficulties even among healthy individuals, with medical experts warning of serious short-term and long-term health impacts. Doctors have advised citizens to avoid outdoor activity unless absolutely necessary and to use N95 or N99 masks if stepping out.

Environmental scientists attribute the spike in pollution to a mix of firecracker emissions, low wind speed, and seasonal atmospheric conditions, which have trapped particulate matter close to the ground. Emergency health precautions and immediate pollution-control measures are being urged to prevent further public health risks.
