In Delhi, the judicial custody of Gaganpreet Kaur, accused in a BMW crash, was extended till September 27. The accident claimed the life of senior Finance Ministry officer Navjot Singh in Dhaula Kuan earlier this month. His wife sustained grievous injuries.
The 38-year-old accused appeared before Patiala House Court after completing her initial two-day custody. Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg heard preliminary arguments regarding her bail plea, which has been scheduled for Saturday. The court will review arguments from both prosecution and defense before delivering its decision.
During proceedings, the prosecution alleged that the BMW was speeding and raised concerns over post-accident handling. Victims were transported to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, allegedly linked to the accused’s relatives, rather than the nearest available hospital, raising questions about potential tampering with evidence. CCTV footage submitted by the Investigating Officer is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events leading to the crash.
Gaganpreet Kaur faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving. The case has attracted widespread attention due to the victim’s high-profile status. The court’s decision on bail will determine whether she remains in judicial custody as the investigation continues.
