Delhi Govt Advises Private Offices to Shift 50% Staff to Work-from-Home

Delhi government advises private offices to allow half the workforce to work from home due to pollution

The Delhi government has issued a fresh advisory asking private offices across the city to allow half of their employees to work from home. The move comes as air pollution levels continue to remain extremely high, triggering stricter measures to reduce traffic and emissions.

According to officials, limiting the number of people travelling to workplaces can help cut down vehicle congestion, which is one of the major contributors to Delhi’s worsening air quality during winter. Offices have been encouraged to rotate staff, split teams or adopt flexible schedules so that only 50% of the workforce is present on-site at any given time.

The advisory is part of the pollution-control steps activated under the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). These measures are introduced when the Air Quality Index falls into the “very poor” or “severe” categories.

The government has urged companies to communicate these instructions clearly to employees and ensure smooth implementation. Public offices and other establishments in Delhi-NCR are also expected to follow similar guidelines to help ease the pollution burden.

Authorities said that with the weather trapping pollutants close to the surface, actions like reducing daily commuting are essential to protect public health and prevent the air quality from deteriorating further.
