Delhi Metro Announces First Fare Hike in 8 Years

Delhi Metro fare hike 2025

Delhi Metro fares rise after 8 years; commuters to pay ₹1-₹5 more from August 25, 2025

Delhi Metro commuters will face slightly higher travel costs from Monday, August 25, 2025, as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced its first fare revision in eight years. The hike ranges between ₹1 and ₹4 on regular lines and up to ₹5 on the Airport Express Line, depending on the distance traveled.

Under the revised slabs, the minimum fare for short trips of up to 2 km has increased from ₹10 to ₹11. For longer journeys exceeding 32 km, fares will now cost ₹64 instead of ₹60. On Sundays and national holidays, when discounted rates apply, the maximum fare has also been raised, with trips over 32 km now costing ₹54 compared to ₹50 earlier.

DMRC officials described the hike as a “minimal adjustment” necessary to offset rising expenses in electricity, staff salaries, and system maintenance. The last revision was implemented in 2017 in two phases, doubling the minimum fare from ₹8 to ₹10 and raising the maximum to ₹60.

Delhi Metro, which has been the backbone of the capital’s transport since 2002, continues to carry millions daily. Officials said the revision will ensure service quality, safety, and future expansion plans remain sustainable.
