Delhi Winter Temperature Drop is expected next week as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a sharp fall in temperatures between December 3 and 5. The capital will see a dip of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in both daytime and nighttime readings. The IMD says the pattern will push Delhi into a colder-than-usual phase.
The western disturbance over north Pakistan and a cyclonic circulation over southwest Rajasthan are driving these changes. These systems influence wind flow over northwest India. As a result, Delhi-NCR will feel an early winter chill. The IMD also expects the city to stay below normal to appreciably below normal by 2–5 degrees Celsius during this period.
On Friday, Safdarjung recorded a minimum of 8.1°C, which was 2.2°C below normal. Several parts of the city reported similar trends. Minimum temperatures across Delhi stayed between 8°C and 10°C, while maximum temperatures settled between 23°C and 26°C. These values fall within the normal range but show a clear downward slide.
Meteorologists say colder winds from the northwest will strengthen over the next few days. These winds usually mark the beginning of Delhi’s deeper winter phase. The IMD expects mornings to turn sharper, while evenings may feel colder earlier than usual. Night temperatures may slip further if the wind flow intensifies.
Residents have already started noticing colder mornings. Many areas reported light fog, though visibility remained normal. The IMD will issue more updates as the weather system progresses.
