Delhi’s Cloud Seeding Trial Successful; Artificial Rain Expected by October 29
Delhi’s ambitious cloud seeding initiative achieved a significant milestone with a successful trial flight conducted by IIT Kanpur and the Delhi Environment Department. The four-hour operation, which took place between Khekra and Burari, involved the deployment of cloud-seeding flares to assess the aircraft’s performance, equipment endurance, and safety protocols. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa confirmed that all technical parameters were met, including flare tests and coordination protocols. The trial aimed to evaluate the readiness of the aircraft and its systems for inducing artificial rain. While no precipitation occurred during the trial due to low moisture levels, the operation was deemed a success. The Delhi government is now preparing for the first artificial rain operation, scheduled between October 28 and 30, contingent on favorable weather conditions. This initiative marks a significant step in Delhi’s efforts to combat pollution through technological interventions.
