Demand for potatoes surged into public discussion after a viral video from Bihar’s Nawada district exposed alleged illegal extortion by Home Guards.
The incident happened at the Rajauli check post, where a truck loaded with potatoes was stopped. In the video, Home Guards are seen demanding potatoes from the driver. They also asked for cash and allegedly threatened him when he tried to record the incident.
The video spread quickly on social media and triggered public anger. Soon after, senior police officials ordered an inquiry. The investigation confirmed serious misconduct by the personnel on duty.
Based on the findings, the Nawada District Magistrate suspended 11 Home Guards with immediate effect. Officials said the action was taken to maintain discipline and protect public trust in law enforcement.
Police officers stated that no one has the right to misuse authority or harass citizens. They also warned that strict action will follow in similar cases.
