Democracy Under Attack, Election Commission Failing Free Polls, says CPI leader D. Raja while addressing the CPI State meet in Alappuzha, Kerala, on Wednesday. He warned that people’s right to vote is being “snatched away,” pointing to recent developments in Bihar as an alarming example.
Raja inaugurated the delegates’ conference and expressed deep concern over the state of democratic institutions in India. According to him, the Election Commission has failed to safeguard free and fair elections. He argued that such failures weaken the foundation of democracy and erode public trust.
The CPI leader also said that attempts to undermine elections are a direct assault on the Constitution. He added that protecting democracy requires active resistance from political parties, civil society, and citizens.
Raja emphasized that the CPI would continue to fight for people’s rights and ensure that elections remain a true reflection of the people’s mandate. He urged delegates to stay vigilant, build grassroots movements, and counter anti-democratic practices.
The Alappuzha state meet also discussed organizational strategies to strengthen the party’s presence in Kerala and other states ahead of upcoming elections.
