The Dev Deepawali rituals begin at Puri Srimandir as the holy month of Margasira enters Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. The three-day celebration fills the Jagannath Temple with devotion, light, and centuries-old traditions. Devotees believe these rituals bring blessings and honour the divine ancestors of Lord Jagannath. The Dev Deepawali rituals begin at Puri Srimandir every year at this sacred time.

On the first day, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra appear in Shraddha Besha. Special lamps are offered for Aditi and Kashyapa. The second day honours King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya. The third day pays tribute to Vasudeva–Devaki, Nanda–Yashoda, and King Indradyumna–Queen Gundicha.

After Dwipahara Dhoopa, devotees receive darshan of the deities in their Shraddha attire. The evenings glow with beauty as three grand lamps are carried to the Bada Deula, Jagamohan, and Bhogamandap.

At the Ratna Singhasan, servitors create a symbolic tree from rice. They light 28 sacred lamps for Mahaprabhu and perform rituals for the three main lamps. These acts of devotion highlight Puri’s spiritual heritage and deepen the connection between the deities and devotees.
