Divyang Special Bus Service to Start in Patna, Big Relief for Disabled Commuters

Divyang Special Bus service with wheelchair access in Patna

After the launch of pink buses for women, the Nitish Kumar government is preparing to roll out the Divyang Special Bus service in Bihar. The Divyang Special Bus service will start from Patna and later expand to other districts.

The Transport Department has already begun groundwork for the project. The move aims to support nearly 2.3 million disabled people in the state who face daily travel problems.

Officials said the plan resumed after a request from the Social Welfare Department. Meetings were held to highlight the difficulties disabled passengers face on regular buses, despite reserved seating.

Earlier, tenders were invited for operating these buses, but no bidders came forward. The department is now preparing to issue fresh tenders at the state level.

The Divyang Special Bus service will include wheelchair access, handrails, low-floor seating, audio alerts, and step-free entry. Disabled passengers may also get fare concessions or free travel. A UDID card or valid ID will be required.

Bus stops will also be redesigned for easy boarding and exit. Special focus will be given to the elderly and people with visual, hearing, or mobility impairments.
