Donor Heart Arrives Chandigarh to Delhi in 1hr 55min, Saves 39-Year-Old Patient

Donor heart arrives Chandigarh to Delhi in 1hr 55min, Green Corridor organ transport, Delhi heart transplant success

New Delhi, September 4, 2025 (ANI): A donor heart arrived from Chandigarh to Delhi in just 1 hour 55 minutes via green corridors, saving the life of a 39-year-old patient. Doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital performed the successful transplant.

The patient, from Meerut, had been suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy and severe mitral valve leakage. His condition worsened over the past four years, forcing two ICU admissions in six months. In August, his health collapsed again, and he was shifted to Delhi for urgent treatment.

On August 26, the National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) informed the hospital about a matching donor heart in Chandigarh. The retrieval team rushed to secure the organ and flew it back on a commercial flight. Green corridors in Chandigarh, both airports, and Delhi city ensured the heart reached the hospital within 1 hour 55 minutes.

A team led by Dr. Sujay Shad, along with cardiac surgeons and specialists, immediately performed the transplant. The patient was on a heart-lung machine during the surgery. The donor heart began working successfully, and recovery started quickly.

Doctors said the patient was off the ventilator in 18 hours, eating normally, and walking lightly. They expect a strong long-term recovery.
