Durga Puja Inclusive Tour: Autistic Individuals to Visit 24 Kolkata Pandals

Durga Puja Inclusive Tour making Kolkata festival accessible

Durga Puja Inclusive Tour will give autistic individuals a chance to enjoy Kolkata’s most iconic celebration. India Autism Center, in partnership with MassArt, has planned special visits for around 450 participants. They will tour 24 pandals from September 18 to 22, before crowds take over the festival hotspots.

Durga Puja Inclusive Tour is designed to ensure autistic individuals experience the joy of pandal hopping without the stress of large gatherings. The effort also highlights the importance of making cultural events accessible to all.

For years, pandal hopping in Kolkata has started well before priests perform rituals. Since Durga Puja entered UNESCO’s cultural heritage list in 2021, footfall at pandals has increased even earlier. This initiative creates a safe, welcoming environment for individuals who might otherwise miss out.

Organisers believe that inclusion at Durga Puja can set an example for other festivals across India. By opening pandals to autistic individuals first, the project celebrates both diversity and tradition. Families hope this will not only bring joy but also raise awareness about accessibility in public events.
