Education a Key Focus in India–EU Free Trade Agreement

Education became an important part of the India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) because it benefits students and both economies. European countries like Germany and France offer high-quality higher education at much lower cost compared to the United States. Many public universities in Europe charge very low or no tuition fees, which makes them attractive for Indian students. Another major benefit is Europe’s friendly visa policies, which allow students to work during studies and stay back after graduation to look for jobs. This helps students gain international work experience and skills. The FTA also encourages academic cooperation, student exchange programmes, and recognition of qualifications between India and EU nations. For Europe, Indian students help fill skill gaps and support innovation. For India, students gain affordable education and global exposure. Overall, education in the India–EU FTA creates new opportunities for youth, strengthens people-to-people ties, and supports long-term economic growth.
