Eknath Shinde Reaffirms Mumbai’s Permanent Place in Maharashtra

Deputy CM Eknath Shinde speaking on Mumbai’s status in Maharashtra

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday firmly stated that Mumbai will never be separated from Maharashtra, rejecting political speculation suggesting otherwise. He said such claims are misleading and aimed at creating confusion among the public.

Speaking during political engagements ahead of the upcoming local body elections, Shinde emphasised that Mumbai’s identity is deeply connected with Maharashtra’s culture, history, and economy. He made it clear that no force or political pressure could alter the city’s status.

Shinde criticised attempts by certain groups to raise unnecessary debates around Mumbai’s future. According to him, such discussions distract people from real civic issues and development work. He urged political parties to focus on governance rather than spreading uncertainty.

The Deputy Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening Mumbai’s infrastructure. He said the administration remains focused on improving transport, housing, and civic amenities for residents across the city.

Shinde’s remarks come at a time when political activity has intensified across Maharashtra ahead of the January 15 municipal elections. Several parties have stepped up their campaigns, and sharp political statements have become common during public rallies.

Addressing party workers, Shinde called for unity within the ruling alliance and stressed the need to work together for Maharashtra’s progress. He said internal differences should not be allowed to affect governance or public confidence.

Political observers believe the statement aims to reassure voters in Mumbai and surrounding regions. Analysts note that clarity on sensitive issues like Mumbai’s status plays a key role in shaping public opinion during elections.

With civic polls approaching, leaders across parties continue to engage voters on development, governance, and stability. Shinde’s firm stand on Mumbai is expected to resonate with residents who see the city as an inseparable part of Maharashtra.
