A fake marriage bureau gang was exposed after police conducted a raid near Polytechnic Dhala in Saharsa. The fake marriage bureau gang had been cheating unmarried men by promising marriage and collecting money through fake profiles on social media.
Police from the cyber cell raided an office that was running like a call center under the name “Marriage Line Dot Com.” The gang allegedly created fake accounts of women on platforms like Facebook and Instagram to trap victims. After someone showed interest, members demanded an initial registration fee of about ₹1,500.
During the raid, police detained three women who were working at the office. Investigators said the main accused, Ranjan Kumar from Supaul district, ran the operation from a rented house in Saharsa. He reportedly hired women to talk to victims and convince them to transfer money.
Police registered an FIR against 11 people in connection with the fraud. The main accused is currently absconding, and teams are conducting raids to arrest him. Officials are also checking bank accounts and call records to identify more victims.
