A poor farm labourer couple from Saideke village in Faridkot district has won the first prize of ₹1.5 crore in the Punjab State Lottery, but instead of celebrating, they have gone into hiding. Naseeb Kaur and her husband Ram Singh, both daily-wage workers, purchased a ₹200 lottery ticket after their seller, Raju from nearby Sadiq town, persuaded them to try the higher-value ticket. The couple was unaware of their win until Raju checked the results on December 6 and repeatedly tried calling Ram Singh, who was in Rajasthan.

Once the news spread, the couple feared becoming targets of extortion. Acting out of panic, the family locked their house, left the village, and switched off their phones. Their sudden disappearance has sparked curiosity and concern among villagers. Meanwhile, authorities may step in if security concerns persist, as the lottery prize is yet to be claimed publicly.
